President Meloni’s press point following the European Council meeting of 15-16 October

Introduction by President Meloni As you have seen, this was an intense European Council meeting with several issues on the agenda. I’ll try to quickly focus on the matters that were, and are, of the greatest importance to us. There is the issue of competitiveness, particularly energy prices. I am pleased that the European Council conclusions include several of the matters we have raised over the last few weeks, including through the document we wrote together with the Czech Republic regarding the ETS issue. There is reference to the Market Stability Reserve; there is reference to ETS2 and the need to assess its timing and safeguards; there is reference to the review of the ETS, which is particularly urgent. On a separate note, as you have seen, in parallel we have completed negotiations with the European Commission on the so-called ‘decree law on energy bills’, namely the measures we approved months ago that required an ok from the European Commission. These were long but constructive negotiations, leading us to find a solution. This is very important as it enables us to take action …

L’intelligenza artificiale è ormai entrata prepotentemente nelle nostre vite ed è destinata a rivoluzionare tutto, a partire dai processi produttivi e industriali.

04 · The House View

Our editorial position

Evidence before emphasis.

The value of a newspaper is the connection it makes between a place, a source and the wider world. We start with your region, preserve the original reporting, and keep what remains unknown in view.

Editorial principles
01

What we can show

  1. Who published the report and where the original record can be read.
  2. The source publication date, separate from the time we checked it.
  3. Regional reporting alongside the wider world.
02

What stays distinct

  1. A publisher’s statement and an independently established fact.
  2. Conceptual artwork and documentary evidence.
  3. A current observation, an open question and a forecast.
03

What changes the view

  1. New primary evidence that adds context or contradicts a claim.
  2. A source correction or withdrawal.
  3. A documented error reported to the corrections desk.

07 · The Null Standard

Start at null. Publish only what the evidence earns.

  1. Start at null

A publisher’s report is an attributed claim. Its source and publication date stay visible.

  2. Separate the layers

Reporting, official announcements, editorial interpretation and conceptual artwork carry different jobs and labels.

  3. Preserve the unknown

Missing evidence stays visible. A source check is not proof that every claim has been independently verified.

  4. Keep the record open

Material errors belong at the corrections desk. Updated or withdrawn reporting must change what readers can see and hear.
