The commitment
Accuracy is not a one-time state. Source records change, agencies revise data, new reporting resolves gaps and our own work can be wrong. NULLPEN corrects material errors visibly and without laundering the history of the record.
Types of change
- Correction
- A factual, numerical, attribution, location, date or contextual error that materially affects understanding.
- Clarification
- The original wording was not necessarily false, but could reasonably create a materially inaccurate impression.
- Update
- New information advances a developing record without invalidating what was accurate at the earlier cutoff.
- Model revision
- Inputs, assumptions, horizon, method or evidence changed enough to alter an estimate or House View.
- Retraction
- The central record can no longer be supported or the publication process failed materially.
The correction record
Preserve
Keep the stable URL and the earlier version when legally and safely possible.
Explain
State what changed and why in language proportionate to the original error.
Timestamp
Record publication time, correction time and the evidence state after revision.
Propagate
Correct derived formats—audio, video, social cards, newsletters and translations—when material.
Review workflow
- Freeze the disputed claim and preserve the relevant source trail.
- Recheck the primary record, attribution, calculation and context.
- Assess severity, reach and potential harm.
- Publish the appropriate change label and version note.
- Reassess any model, summary or regional conclusion that depended on it.
A disagreement with an interpretation does not automatically establish a factual error. It does require review when the disagreement identifies missing evidence, undisclosed assumptions or material context.
