The Italian Government and the European Commission have reached a common understanding on the measures set out in the ‘DL Bollette’ (‘Decree-Law on Energy Bills’, decree-law no. 21/2026), in full respect of the Middle East State Aid Framework (METSAF) and sectorial legislation. This follows intensive and constructive exchanges between the Commission services and the Italian authorities, with the shared objective of lowering the impact of energy costs and limiting the effect of the increase in gas prices on the price of electricity for households and businesses while preserving a level playing field in the internal market, minimising distortions. On this basis, Italy will notify the temporary measures to the Commission under EU State aid rules, and the Commission will assess them as a matter of priority.
Il Governo italiano e la Commissione europea hanno raggiunto un'intesa comune sulle misure previste dal Dl Bollette (decreto-legge 21/2026), nel pieno rispetto del Middle East State Aid Framework (Metsaf) e della normativa settoriale. Ciò fa seguito a intensi e costruttivi scambi tra i servizi della Commissione e le autorità italiane, con l’obiettivo comune di attenuare l’impatto dei costi energetici e limitare l’effetto dell’aumento dei prezzi del gas sul prezzo dell’energia elettrica per le famiglie e le imprese, preservando al contempo la parità di condizioni nel mercato interno minimizzando le distorsioni. Su questa base, l’Italia notificherà le misure temporanee alla Commissione ai sensi delle norme dell’UE in materia di aiuti di Stato e la Commissione le valuterà in via prioritaria.

In the margins of the European Council meeting today, the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, together with the Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, and the Dutch Prime Minister, Rob Jetten, held another informal meeting with some of the Member States that have the most interest in innovative solutions for the management of migration. In addition to Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands and the European Commission, the meeting was also attended by Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Finland, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Sweden.
