Support cannot purchase belief.

NULLPEN’s advertising standard protects the boundary between commercial support and evidence-led editorial judgment.

01

Current status

The initial business model anticipates clearly labeled advertising across the website, newsletter, audio, short-form video and social channels. Revenue is necessary; influence over evidence states, sourcing, corrections, forecasts or editorial conclusions is not for sale.

02

The editorial wall

01

No prior approval

An advertiser may not preview, edit, suppress or approve independent coverage about itself, its sector or a competitor.

02

No evidence influence

Payment cannot change a claim’s evidence state, confidence label, source selection or correction outcome.

03

Visible disclosure

Paid placements must look and read as advertising, sponsorship or paid partnership—not as an editorial record.

04

Conflicts on record

Relevant commercial relationships are disclosed when they could reasonably affect how a reader interprets coverage.

03

Creative and advertiser eligibility

Acceptance will depend on legality, truthfulness, user safety, technical quality and fit with reader trust. The following are presumptively ineligible; this list is not exhaustive:

  • Illegal products, services or conduct.
  • Deceptive claims, fabricated endorsements or guaranteed financial returns.
  • Discriminatory housing, employment, credit or service exclusions.
  • Malware, deceptive navigation, forced downloads or misleading system notices.
  • Content that exploits tragedy, fear, protected traits or vulnerable people.
  • Political persuasion presented as neutral public-interest information.
  • Creative designed to imitate NULLPEN’s evidence labels, source cards or correction notices.

Acceptance of an advertiser is not an endorsement. NULLPEN may reject or remove a placement when new information creates a trust, safety, legal or editorial concern.

04

Labeling and placement

Display
Marked ‘Advertisement’ or an equally direct label before the creative begins.
Sponsored
The sponsor is identified prominently; any role in topic selection or production is explained.
Audio and video
A spoken or on-screen disclosure appears early enough to be understood before the commercial message.
Native formats
Typography, evidence states and bylines may not be used to create false editorial equivalence.
Adjacency
Sensitive reporting may be excluded from commercial placement where adjacency could create harm or a misleading association.
05

Audience data and measurement

The public beta uses no advertising trackers or behavioral advertising. Before measurement or targeting is introduced, the privacy notice, consent controls, vendor disclosures, retention rules and opt-out paths must be updated and tested.

Future reporting to advertisers should use aggregated, proportionate metrics. NULLPEN will not promise access to named readers, sensitive profiles or editorial-source information.
