U’khand govt extends retirement age of specialist doctors to 65, ET HealthWorld

Dehradun: In a bid to provide age relaxation to specialist doctors at public healthcare institutions and partially address shortage of doctors in the state, the Uttarakhand govt in an order passed by state health secretary Dr R Rajesh Kumar, on Friday, increased their retirement age from 60 to 65.

Officials said that this proposal had been in the works for some time. “The five-year retirement extension will benefit 550 specialist doctors and help strengthen healthcare services across Uttarakhand. Rural and remote villages in hill districts will particularly benefit from their services,” said Kumar.

The extension will apply only to doctors serving in public health care institutions. However, officials said that after the age of 60, no doctor on extension will be given any administrative or financial duty and their appointments will be limited to vacant posts in their respective specialties. The order also stipulated that “such officials will not be promoted, and any salary increment or service benefits will be strictly in line with existing regulations.”
