Kota: Resident doctors at Maharao Bheem Singh (MBS) Hospital staged a four-hour boycott, Monday night, after attendants of an injured patient allegedly assaulted a resident doctor in the emergency ward. While hospital authorities assured that senior doctors managed patient care, the families of two accident victims claimed they died due to the work stoppage.
The protest started around 10 pm after a police-brought accident victim’s attendants allegedly manhandled Dr Aman, a surgery department resident, when he inquired about the patient’s alcohol consumption history. Other residents present on the spot told media that instead of responding, the attendants behaved aggressively with the resident doctor and one of them grabbed his collar and slapped him.
The doctors resumed duty only after police arrested the accused, identified as Golu, around 2 am. “A case has been registered under the BNS Act and Rajasthan Medical Practitioner Safety Act for obstructing govt duty and assaulting a doctor,” said Nayapura police station CI Rajpal Singh.
Meanwhile, relatives of two other injured persons, who allegedly succumbed in absence of timely medical attention due to residents’ work boycott, alleged the hospital doctors failed to attend them.
According to family members, Nadil Khan (20) and Shhid Khan (21) residents of Keshoraipatan town in Bundi district were brought to MBS hospital at approximately 12 am intervening Monday-Tuesday nights after sustaining critical injuries in mishap on Kota-Lalsot mega highway near Toll Plaza earlier at night. They alleged the hospital staff neglected them amid the strike.
“When we reached the hospital around midnight, no doctor attended them. We had to take them to a private hospital, where they were declared brought dead,” said Shahid’s uncle.
Refuting the allegation, hospital superintendent Dr. Dharmraj Meena said, “I personally witnessed their examination. ECG and CPR were performed, but they were brought dead.”
