Lucknow: State govt is considering making treatment of trauma cases during Golden Hour free of cost, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak announced while addressing the Conclave on Medical Emergency and Trauma (COMET) 2025.
Experts noted that currently, treatment for the first 24 hours is free at govt hospitals and institutes, including diagnostic tests. However, private facilities charge for the treatment. Addressing this, Pathak emphasised that timely and accessible emergency care can save many lives and added that the govt is seriously evaluating the proposal to strengthen trauma response mechanisms across the state.
Pathak highlighted advancements in medical science, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, stating, “Earlier, we had limited options related to serious illness. But today, with continuous innovations in medical science, India – and particularly Uttar Pradesh – is emerging as a hub of new medical research and experimentation.”
Speaking to participants from across the country at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, including experts and doctors from various states, he acknowledged their contributions in enriching the workshop with their experience and insights. He also praised the scale and organisation of COMET 2025, calling it one of the biggest workshops in the field of emergency and trauma care.
“Workshops like this not only help our medical professionals upgrade their skills but also open avenues for the govt to consider policy changes based on expert recommendations,” he said.
Pathak noted that the govt is exploring ways to reduce the financial burden on patients during critical emergencies, especially during the golden hour – the crucial time when immediate treatment can save lives. “We are actively thinking about how to ensure that financial issues do not become a barrier when a patient is fighting for their life,” he added.
He thanked the organising committee and extended his best wishes to all participants, encouraging them to take back valuable experiences from Lucknow.
“If there’s anything we can improve upon, we welcome your suggestions,” he concluded.
