Statement by Palazzo Chigi on the Court of Cassation’s ruling on the former Ilva steel plant

NULLPEN · Source published 10/30/2026, 2:05:22 PM UTC

The Government has no choice but to take note of the ruling by the Court of Cassation on the former Ilva steel plant, which disregards the reasoned conclusions of the Prosecutor General's Office at the same Court. The Government will not back down from its responsibilities, just as it has never backed down from them so far, as confirmed by the decree-law that came into force a few days ago and as reiterated during last Tuesday’s meeting with trade union organisations at Palazzo Chigi. It is clear that this ruling, the content of which requires thorough examination, further complicates a process that has been increasingly difficult and fraught with all manner of obstacles.
