New Town set to get new govt healthcare facility, ET HealthWorld

Kolkata: The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has received approval from the state health department to set up a 30-bed govt healthcare facility in New Town Action Area ID, which will provide 24-hour round-the-clock basic healthcare services. The authorities have initiated the process to engage an agency to take up construction work.

A plot at DA/138A in New Town Action Area I has been earmarked for setting up the proposed health facility, which will be run by the health department, officials said.

“Presently, there is no 24-hour round-the-clock govt healthcare facility in New Town. The primary urban health centres there only have OPD facilities during the day. The aim is to start off with a 24-hour basic healthcare service with 30 beds,” said an NKDA official. Officials said it was being considered in the long run to upgrade the health facility into a full-fledged hospital in the public sector, subject to the state govt’s approval.

Officials said that the estimated project cost for setting up the 30-bedded facility is around Rs 13 crore, out of which the health department will be funding about Rs 5.2 crore once construction work starts. “The rest Rs 8 crorewill be borne by NKDA,” said an official.
