A selection of recent work by artist Liang Fu. Born in Sichuan, China, and currently based in Paris, France, Fu received his BFA and MFA from the National Fine Arts School of Nantes (France). His practice centers around the intricate interplay of corporeal forms, geographical landscapes, and the passage of time. His paintings explore a variety of themes related to rebirth and the elusive or ever-shifting nature of things. Depicting figures with the mere semblance of a human form–and often shrouded beneath a veil, mist or, perhaps, some other otherworldly substance altogether–it’s not always clear what one is looking at. The fluidity of colour, shape, and materials used (a mix of oil, water and pigment) reinforces a sense of constant movement and the blurred lines between what is visible and invisible, known and unknown.
