Lucknow: King George’s Medical University (KGMU) experts will help reduce stress among medical students and provide relief from depression, ensuring they are protected from any unpleasant incidents in the future.
On the instructions of deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, vice chancellor Dr Soniya Nityanand formed a committee to prepare a standard operating procedure for mental counselling of students.
The KGMU administration has formed a committee that includes the dean of student welfare, mental health specialists, and other experts.
Last Tuesday, a junior resident student allegedly attempted suicide from the hostel roof. She is currently being treated at the trauma centre and is gradually improving.
Pathak inquired about the resident doctor’s condition and directed Nityanand to address student issues, including organising regular counselling sessions to help students manage stress.
This committee will prepare a stress management training protocol, which will be officially implemented. New MBBS students will be trained to adjust to the medical environment and learn methods to cope with work and study pressures.
Dr Sudhir Singh, spokesperson, assured that efforts will be made to reduce stress among medical students. Counselling sessions will be conducted regularly, and stressed students will be provided relief.
