Lucknow: Govt hospitals in the city are gearing up to handle the expected rise in patients during Holi. Over 100 beds will be reserved across various govt hospitals in the state capital for three days, starting March 13.

King George’s Medical University (KGMU) Trauma Centre allocated 10 beds and deployed senior residents with senior doctors on high alert. “Senior residents from each department were assigned duty to ensure the availability of doctors from all specialties during Holi. The peak hours begin in the afternoon, so all were instructed to remain on high alert,” said Prof Sudhir Singh, spokesperson, KGMU.

The govt hospitals are also on high alert with reserving beds and deployment of specialised medical teams to deal with any medical emergencies.

Balrampur Hospital structured a dedicated emergency roster. “An eye specialist, general surgeon, skin specialist, and orthopaedic surgeon will be available round the clock. Special focus is being given to Friday as past experiences indicate a higher number of accident cases on Holi,” said Dr Sanjay Teotia Singh, director, Balrampur Hospital.

At Lok Bandhu Hospital, over 10 beds will be set aside for emergency cases during the two-day festivities. “Our teams were instructed to remain vigilant,” said Dr Ajai Shankar Tripathi, medical superintendent, Lok Bandhu Hospital.

Moreover, ambulance services have also been strengthened. “All ambulances are on high alert, with clear instructions for immediate response to emergency calls. They will be stationed at key locations and hotspots for quick access. On Holi, some ambulances will also be deployed near police stations to facilitate coordination, ensuring swift assistance to those in need,” said Sunil Yadav, media manager, 108 Ambulance Services.

Medical teams at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, Civil Hospital, and BRD Mahanagar Hospital have also been placed on high alert. In case of emergencies, people can dial 108 or 112 for assistance in reaching a medical centre.
