Shimla: Health and family welfare minister Colonel Dhani Ram Shandil (retd) on Saturday a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) unit was set up at HP Govt Dental College and Hospital, Shimla.
The minister said the CBCT unit was the state-of-the-art radiographic diagnostic equipment and was one of its kind in the state. It provides the largest coverage of the skull and maxillofacial region, including the cervical spine, he added.
Shandil said the unit provided 3-D volumetric data, utilised for diagnosing structural abnormalities of bone and dentition in the field of dentistry.
It also offers better diagnostic capabilities compared to 2D X-rays when diagnosing dental and maxillofacial bone pathologies due to its three-dimensional projections, he said, adding that this was achieved with a radiation dose much lower compared to medical CT, but with higher resolution.
