CM lays Bhagwant Mann stone for medical college in Bhagat Singh’s memory, ET HealthWorld

Nawanshahr: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann laid the foundation stone of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Government Medical College, which will be attached to civil hospital, Nawanshahr, and will come up at around Rs 300 crore. This is the third medical college in the Doaba region for which the foundation stone was laid, after Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala.

The college will offer 50 MBBS seats. The district civil hospital currently provides secondary-level care but lacks specialised medical facilities. With the establishment of the medical college, specialist and super-specialist doctors will be available round the clock. New departments in medicine, surgery, paediatrics, orthopaedics, gynaecology, and emergency care will be strengthened. Similarly, the ICU, trauma centre, and diagnostic labs will be upgraded to handle more complex cases. Advanced medical equipment and technology will be introduced to improve patient care.

The state govt said this project has been fast-tracked, ensuring timely completion and operationalisation. Recruitment of faculty and staff will be prioritised to make this institution fully functional at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the CM also addressed the state-level function to mark the martyrdom of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of Bhagat Singh. He said that the state govt was making concerted efforts to perpetuate the legacy of these legendary martyrs for the coming generations.
