Gurugram: Multi-specialty hospital chain Medanta is accelerating its expansion drive, announcing plans to set up a 400-bed super specialty hospital in Guwahati, Assam, with a capital outlay of ₹500 crore.
In a stock exchange filing, the hospital said its Board of Directors, in a meeting held on April 28, approved the purchase of three acres of land from Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Ltd. for ₹30 crore. The investment will cover the cost of land acquisition and development of a state-of-the-art facility.
The Guwahati project is part of Medanta’s broader growth strategy to strengthen its national footprint and bring world-class healthcare services to underserved regions. This new hospital aims to serve over 50 million people across Assam and neighboring states, addressing the pressing demand for advanced healthcare infrastructure in the Northeast.
Commenting on the expansion, Dr Naresh Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director, Medanta, said the move reflects the group’s commitment to bringing world-class healthcare to a region that has long been underserved.
“Today, with the Board’s approval to acquire land in Guwahati and our plans to build a super specialty hospital, we are taking a decisive step toward fulfilling that vision,” he said.
Pankaj Sahni, Group CEO, Medanta, added, “Guwahati, often regarded as the gateway to the Northeast, offers strong connectivity across the entire region. Setting up a hospital here will allow us to bridge the healthcare gap and bring high-end medical care within easy reach of millions.”
The proposed hospital, located along National Highway 27, will offer services across more than 20 super specialties, including transplants and advanced robotic procedures.
With this addition, Medanta’s multi-specialty hospital network will grow to seven facilities, including existing hospitals in Gurugram, Indore, Ranchi, Lucknow, and Patna and one under-construction site in Noida.
