Help Shape the Bay Area’s Climate Future
Seeking input from local leaders, organizations, and individuals to shape California’s Fifth Climate Assessment for the region
The California Climate Change Assessment is a key initiative to understand and address the state’s climate impacts and build resilience through informed decision-making. California’s Fourth Climate Change Assessment included a series of technical reports, regional summaries, and a statewide synthesis covering key issues such as extreme heat, wildfires, and sea level rise—providing critical guidance for adaptation efforts.
The State is currently developing its Fifth Climate Change Assessment, a comprehensive initiative that will deepen our understanding of climate impacts and support resilience across local, regional, and state levels. This Assessment will center the needs of communities most vulnerable to climate change and include both regional synthesis reports and topical synthesis reports to help develop informed responses to the impacts of climate change in their region.
As part of this process, the Center for Law, Energy & the Environment (CLEE) at UC Berkeley Law is leading the development of the San Francisco Bay Area Regional Report which will help guide climate adaptation and mitigation efforts throughout the region.
But we can’t do this alone. We want this report to be more than a static document—we want it to be useful. That’s why we’re inviting stakeholders to share their insights and priorities through a brief Community Engagement Survey.
Why Your Feedback Matters
The Bay Area Regional Report will identify key climate risks, summarize the latest science, and highlight strategies for building resilience. But to truly reflect the needs of Bay Area communities, we need input from those on the frontlines—local governments, community-based organizations, advocates, planners, researchers, and residents.
We especially want to hear from:
- Community-based organizations
- Sustainability- and resilience-focused nonprofits
- Public agencies (statewide, regional, sub-regional, and local)
- Private sector companies
- Academic institutions and researchers
- Climate collaboratives
- Other engaged individuals
This is your opportunity to inform California’s statewide climate assessment by telling us:
- How your organization has used California’s climate assessments in the past—or how you’d like to use them
- What climate-related priorities matter most to your community or sector
- How we can make this report more user-friendly, actionable, and relevant to your work
- Any other ideas to ensure this report supports meaningful, coordinated climate action in the Bay Area

We invite you to complete this short survey: Climate Change Assessment Bay Area Survey. The survey closes on May 15, 2025.
Your input will directly shape the development of the report and ensure it meets the needs of the people and places it’s meant to serve. You can find more engagement opportunities on our SF Bay Area Fifth Climate Assessment website. The report will be released in 2026.
Let’s build a climate-resilient Bay Area—together.
