‘IGIMS gets Rs 3 crore fromCentre for medical research’, ET HealthWorld


Patna: Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) director, Dr Bindey Kumar, on Wednesday said that the institute’s focus is now on research, along with providing better medical services to people.

Speaking the institute’s foundation day function, Kumar advised doctors to continue with the research and assured them there would be no dearth of funds for this purpose. He further mentioned that the institute received Rs 3 crore as an extramural fund from the Central govt for medical research purposes. Talking about some of the major work done at the hospital, he said nearly 1000 cornea and 160 kidney transplants were done here.

Apart from the 42nd foundation day celebration, the institute’s 11th foundation oration day was also organised, and renowned nephrologist Dr Vivekanad Jha was felicitated. Dr Jha, who was also the main speaker of the occasion, stressed the importance of research, especially in the medical field, which he said helps in finding new and better ways of treatment and benefits mankind.

Dr Sanjay D’Cruz from the Govt Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh, was present as the guest of honour. Others who graced the occasion were IGIMS nephrology department head, Dr Om Kumar; IGIMS superintendent Dr Manish Mandal and Dr Amresh Krishna from AIIMS-Patna. Vote of thanks was given by Dr Ranjeet Guha, while Dr Sangeeta Pankaj moderated the event.
