Nagpur: A large-scale survey of household health expenditure is currently underway in Nagpur district as part of a nationwide initiative by the National Statistical Office (NSO). The year-long study, which began in January and will continue until December 2025, aims to collect detailed data on medical expenses, hospitalisations, vaccinations, and maternal healthcare.
Collector Vipin Itankar has urged residents to cooperate with officials conducting the survey, emphasising that accurate data will help shape healthcare policies. “This survey will provide valuable insights into healthcare spending and accessibility, which are crucial for improving medical infrastructure and govt welfare schemes,” he said.
The survey, conducted across all districts of Maharashtra, will focus on families with a child aged one year or younger and households where a member was hospitalised in the last year. The collected data will be extrapolated to assess the overall healthcare expenditure trends in the state.
To ensure accurate and efficient data collection, a training workshop was held at Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) in Nashik from January 7 to 10. Field officers and staff were trained in standardised data collection procedures. These officials are now visiting selected households in Nagpur to gather information in a prescribed format.
Authorities have stressed the importance of this survey in assessing medical costs, both in private and govt hospitals, and identifying gaps in healthcare services. The findings will aid policymakers in making informed decisions regarding budget allocations, insurance schemes, and healthcare infrastructure improvements. Residents have been encouraged to provide correct and complete details, as the survey’s authenticity will directly impact healthcare planning at the state and national levels.
