Donald Trump has fired a top official of FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) official, Mary Comans, after it was revealed that the agency paid $59 million to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal immigrants. Mary Comans was the chief financial officer. Three others involved in this scandal also lost their jobs, a Department of Homeland Security official confirmed.
“Effective immediately, FEMA is terminating the employment of four individuals for circumventing leadership to unilaterally make egregious payments for luxury NYC hotels for migrants. Firings include FEMA’s Chief Financial Officer, two program analysts and a grant specialist,” assistant DHS secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.
“Under President Trump and Secretary Noem’s leadership, DHS will not sit idly and allow deep state activists to undermine the will and safety of the American people,” the statement added.
The action came as Donald Trump slammed FEMA on Truth Social. “FEMA spent tens of millions of dollars in Democrat areas, disobeying orders, but left the people of North Carolina high and dry. It is now under review and investigation. THE BIDEN RUN FEMA HAS BEEN A DISASTER. FEMA SHOULD BE TERMINATED! IT HAS BEEN SLOW AND TOTALLY INEFFECTIVE. INDIVIDUAL STATES SHOULD HANDLE STORMS, ETC., AS THEY COME. BIG SAVINGS, FAR MORE EFFICIENT!!!” Trump wrote.
DOGE uncovered FEMA payment for migrants
The alleged scam was uncovered by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency as Elon Musk recently claimed that the department violated the president’s executive order calling for an immigration crackdown by funding hotel stays for migrants and that too at luxury hotels costing the department $50 million. “That money is meant for American disaster relief and instead is being spent on high-end hotels for illegals,” Musk posted on X on Monday — and promised DOGE would be making “a clawback demand … to recoup those funds.”
Prompted by this revelation, acting FEMA administrator Cameron Hamilton announced that payments to those luxury hotels has been suspended.
