AIIMS Bhopal trains healthcare professionals in emergency ultrasound, ET HealthWorld

Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal conducted a workshop on point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in trauma and emergency care, equipping healthcare professionals with skills for quicker and more precise diagnoses. The ‘PACTEM 2025′ workshop focused on using POCUS to enhance emergency treatment, according to a press release on Sunday.

Unlike comprehensive ultrasounds, POCUS provides immediate answers to specific clinical questions, aiding rapid decision-making in critical situations.

AIIMS Bhopal director Dr Ajai Singh highlighted the significance of the technology, saying, “Every second counts in emergency medicine. POCUS has the ability to provide rapid and accurate diagnosis right at the patient’s side.” He suggested that even those outside the medical profession, such as traffic police and auto-rickshaw drivers, could benefit from emergency care training due to their frequent presence at accident scenes.

AIIMS Bhopal president Dr Sunil Malik said, “Emergency medicine is the face of any hospital, underscoring the importance of continuous advancements in emergency care.”

The workshop featured training from medical educators, with a focus on simulation, case studies, and a high faculty-to-participant ratio. The aim is to enable faster diagnoses, shorter wait times for critical procedures, improved trauma survival rates, and better emergency care overall. AIIMS Bhopal department of trauma and emergency medicine team, including Dr Bupeshwari Patel, Dr Pooja Thaware, and Dr Saurabh Trivedi among others, organised the workshop.
